Jay Short – Head Pepper
Some might say Jay is a hansome man. His wife Susan is very involved with Jala Jala and his two kids are following his footsteps in the food world. Jay has over 20 years experience in being an entrepreneur. Jala Jala has allowed Jay to combine his passion for exceptional food and his sense of business. He attended El Centro College Culinary School. With Jay’s Texas culinary roots and innovative ideas he has developed products for Jala Jala. Jay loves people, entertaining, and football. He believes successful people put their shopping cart up and don’t leave it in the parking lot. ‘If it is to be, it’s up to me’ is a favorite quote of his. Jay enjoys a good whiskey, the occasional cigar, and blah blah blah
In 2014 he received the Acidified Foods Better Process School Certificate from Auburn University followed by the National Environmental Health Association’s Hazard Analysis & Critical Control Points (HACCP) Manager Certificate in 2015. He has presented at the Alabama Food Protection Association’s annual meeting and attends Auburn University’s annual Food Entrepreneurial Conference. He sits on the Huntsville Technology School Culinary Board and has served as a judge at the Alabama Restaurant & Hospitality Association’s ProStart competition.
Richard Judah – Head Sales Pepper
Richard hails from Dothan, AL. He is married and has 3 grown kids. His true passion is for his family, coaching his kids sports growing up, visiting with his siblings and spending time with his 91 year old dad. Richard enjoys golfing, fishing, grilling, relaxing at the beach, and Alabama Football. He has over 29 years experience working in the soft drink business. Richard met Jay a few years ago while doing consulting work. He was intrigued by Jala Jala’s great products and potential. Through his passion for a challenge and his knowledge in retail, grocery stores and sales; Richard came to work for Jala Jala. Richard’s believes in Harry Truman’s quote ‘It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit’.
Zach Aden – Head Pepper Producer
Zach is responsible for day-to-day production of Jala Jala’s product line. Aden received his National Environmental Health Association’s Hazard Analysis & Critical Control Points (HACCP) Manager Certificate certification in 2017, qualifying him to operate Jala Jala’s commercial kitchen. Utilizing Jay’s recipes, he consistently produces quality products ensuring that each batch of Jala Jala products has the same great taste and quality.
Beth Haynes – Marketing Pepper
Beth grew up in Kentucky and came to Alabama for college where she met her husband. She has a diverse career background in sales, marketing, advertising, and nonprofits. Beth is a UK basketball fan and enjoys crafting. Beth met Jay through mutual friends and after leaving her last job came to work for Jala Jala.
